Unless otherwise noted all of the following prints by Herem are available serigraphs, defined as silk-screened images which have been hand done by the artist, and in most cases, with the technical help of Vashon Island, Washington printer Jim Hunziker. Most are in editions of 195 images. At the end are listed a number of small-size lithographs based on some of these serigraphs. A number of 5 X 7 note cards are available as noted. Many of the serigraphs are Sold Out, however, in some cases a very few can still be located, often as Artist's Proofs, and/or as works which have been returned from an estate, or which can be retrieved from galleries. It may be worth inquiring about this variable availability. Collectors may specify an Artist's Proof (AP) which is usually $100 more than the listed price for a regular edition. In addition, the first ten of several of the serigraphs were set aside as much as 30 years ago. The price on these varies but is generally higher than an Artist's Proof. Regular stock goes for standard retail values, which also vary and are listed.
Most all of these works are done in what is known as “formline” design (also known as flat design), both of which are the primary graphic design system immemorially invented by native artists of the ancient Pacific Northwest Coast of North America. See comment on this style and its modern developments under the homepage Essays title. It is a style now used by many people of every nationality and racial/ tribal description.
Note: All serigraphs come with a printed story/explanation shipped with each order. All are shipped in wide cardboard tubes which do not harm either paper or ink. Silk screen ink is dense, strong, and impervious to fading. It is, however, easy to scratch thereby compromising its velvet matt quality. Handle carefully. |
